Tribal Music Museum

Built in 1937, the Tribal Music Museum is a white elegant Japanese house. It used to be the villa of General Sun Li-jen, and then an Air Force guest house. It has been renovated to become the Tribal Music Museum. The exterior of the building combines Western and Japanese architectural elements. The white wall together with the gate beam exhibits a special ambience in the sun, making it a popular site for shooting wedding photos. The garden, with rich greenery, has steel sculptures such as tree-biting insects and shackles, adding a tinge of entertainment.

The museum has a display area, audiovisual room, small performance hall and collection room that houses Heluo, Hakka, and indigenous people's musical instruments. An introduction to Nanguan and Beiguan, both a type of musical instrument, are also included.

In an attempt to expose the general public to traditional incense-making culture, Seven Star Incense Company which established it's reputation in Pingtung by incense-making industry, founded a museum as well as a botanical garden for native plants used to produce incenses. In addition, it transformed it's conventional factory into a tourist friendly one, where on-site DIY activities are available for tourists to make incense in a shape they prefer so that they can experience the fun of incense making first hand.

Pingtung Art Museum

The Pingtung Art Museum was formerly used as the building of the Pingtung City Government. It was renovated in 2007 a long with a road beautification project. Now, the museum blends well into the surrounding art park. The interior space of the museum has also been redesigned; in addition to being an exhibition space for artists in southern Taiwan, the museum is also a high-quality space where the locals can get more access to art and culture.

The Pingtung Art Museum is in a first-generation postwar official administrative building for a county-controlled city, thereby being historically significant in the local area. The building exterior is not exuberantly designed, while the exterior has the classical western pillar structure, revealing it's postwar architectural characteristics. While appreciating art here, visitors can also imagine the quietude inside this building during the political turmoil of the past.
