Haomeiliao Nature Preserve
This preserve in the south of Budai Township has an abundance of natural resources, including an offshore lagoon, sand bars, coastal windbreaks and swamp. It is a great habitat for water birds, mudskippers, oysters, fiddler crabs and other wetland species to inhabit and feed. Coastal plants, like black mangrove, mangrove forest, and various types of swamp trees can be viewed at this ecological site, which is a great family-friendly place to visit.
XinWen Flood Detention Pond
Costal areas like Budai usually suffered from flood due to its land subsidence. The Chiayi County Government has reconstructed the salt fields located between the Longgong River and the Bazhang river into two refurbished flood dectection ponds, one in the north and another in the south, 76 hectares in total. In the north side of the pond, a pavilion is built with lawn and footpaths around. In addition to keep from a flood, this beautiful park is a recreational spot for your family to enjoy the outdoors.
Budai Port
Whenever you see the Buhsin Bridge, which symbolizes as an exotic ship enters the port, you already arrive Budai Port. This port stands at 1800 hectares. Due to the port is shaped like a pocket, incoming fishermen gave it the nickname as 'pocket'(Budai). With affluent fishery and salt industry, Budai port has gradually transformed into a tourism spot and recreational harbor, where you may watch the fish auction, taste delicious seafood and take a raft tour to enjoy seashore scenery and oyster farming.
Donshin Fisherman's Wharf
In the north side of the Puzih River mouth, the Dongshin Fisherman's Wharf is programmed to reveal different faces of the ocean, including the "wind", the "sunshine", the "fish", the "boats", the "sea" and the "light house", and to restore a Holland-style windmill as an entrance. It's perfect for family recreational events as you may pile up sand, play in the water, or walk along the coast-walking platform to enjoy natural ecology, like observing white egrets. In Donshin Fisherman's Wharf, people may enjoy summer time by attending an annual music summer festival or using its volleyball fields and water facilities.
Augo Wetland
This wetland. one of the seven largest wetlands in the world, is about 1458 hectares. It has abundant landforms, more than 290 plants and 208 species of birds inhabited. Every autumn and winter, Augo wetland attracts thousands of migrant birds and animal species, while its number of anatidae is the highest in Taiwan. Because of the diversity and volume of birds in this wetland, it is nicknamed as "a paradise for bird watchers". In recent years, the Forestry Bureau has been planting melaleuca leucadendron, bischofia trifoliate, lumnitzera racemosa for 766 hectares. This forest area is a perfect site for ecological education.
Chuantsaitou Leisure Village
The villiage is located in Dongshin, as known as "Dianchuan port". This area has been fully preserved in the countryside style. It's easy to see traditional courtyard houses and recreational family hostels here. Tourists may experience traditional village life by taking carts towed by cows, by farming in the fields, picking vegetables, hunting crickets, visiting gardening plants, tasting countryside cuisines or cycling along Puzih River. This gives a complete and well-rounded experience of the old time farmers' lifestyle.
