In addition to clear waters and beautiful mountains, Taitung also has a rich and diverse natural ecology. Whale, butterfly and bird watching are all highly-recommended and worth-while experiences.
The East Rift Valley Sea Area is the birthplace of whale-watching in Taiwan. The whales here are abundant in quantity and in type.
The thick forests in Taitung are a bird's paradise; the habitats here can bring you boundless joy.
Taitung Forest Park
Taitung Forest Park is an ideal location for butterfly-watching. From March to May each year, during the warmth of spring when flowers are in full bloom, it is when the largest number of butterfly species appear. There are many interactive displays in the butterfly zone that allow visitors to appreciate butterflies.
Taitung County Museum of Natural History
The Taitung County Museum of Natural History is located in the Chenggong Township. The museum has more than five hundred species of shell specimens, and more than two hundred pieces of ores, which also is known as living fossils, including the Adansong Pleuroto-maria, and Longgong Pleurotomaria rare species.
Donghe Leisure Farm
Natural landscapes and animal and plant ecology are well preserved in the Donghe Leisure Farm Area. On this farm, engage in various activities when you come upon the traditional Chinese medicine park, the tourist orchards, or the forest trails.

Transportation | By CarGo from the intersection between Zhongshan Road and Mahengheng Blvd. to reach the Taitung Forest Park entrance, which is next to the Aboriginal Cultural Center. By BusTake the Diing Dong Passenger Bus, the Hualien or Kuo-Kuang Bus towards, Chenggong. Alight at the Veteran's Hospital Station and walk to the end of Zhongshan Road to reach destination. |
