MRT Xinbeitou Station, Beitou Park

As soon as you exit MRT Xinbeitou Station, Beitou Park lies directly before you. The park is long and thin, moving up the narrow valley along both sides of Beitou Stream. While you breathe in the fresh air, you get a good feeling for the Beitou green-living style. Beitou Park pleases the eye with arched stone bridges, pavilions, the famed stone “guitar bridge” (from the name of a 1966 film shot here). With lush greenery and the murmuring stream, a walk in the park is an enjoyable treat.

Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch

Within the park is what is called the “library in the forest”, the first green library in the country, fully eco-friendly. This is the Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch. With its design concept that “the building is part of the environment”, making it a must-visit spot to enjoy the green-life harmony.

Thermal Valley

The Beitou Stream passing through the park is one of Taiwan's most unique waterways, with an unusual number of tiny waterfalls along its course. These formed natural spa pools for local inhabitants in the old days, and in the even older days were the green mineral water gestation spots for the rare Beitou Stone. Thermal Valley, with the headwaters for Beitou Stream, is also a unique work of nature's art, its depths filled with minute green-tint particles that give it the appearance of liquid jade.

Yinguang(Silver Light)Lane

The Yinguang(Silver Light)Lane is a well-known Beitou eco-attraction, with lush plant life—notably ferns, a perfect spot to test your biology learning.

blue fabric-dyeing

If interested in Beitou's volcanic geology, take a vehicle up to Liuhuang(Sulfur)Valley and see the area's sulfur fumaroles and hot springs. Or explore the area's blue fabric-dyeing tradition, and maybe do a little creating yourself. Be sure to contact the Beitou Culture Foundation and sign up for its DIY blue-dyeing tour in advance. Not too far from old Beitou, there's also great birdwatching at Guandu Nature Park, the mangrove swamp, and other adventures.

The rich natural scenery and attractive terrain of Beitou keep people coming back again and again. In Beitou you are pampered in every way: hot springs soaking, eco-touring, fine foods, and much more, the perfect getaway spot for holidaying with friends and family.
