Obeying nature is the life philosophy of the Tao(Yami)tribe, hence there are several annual ceremonies throughout the year. When the flowers of Erythrina variegate blossom each year, the skipjacks also arrive at Lanyu's beachhead, bringing with them bounty and hope. The Lanyu canoe, especially built to catch skipjacks, demonstrates Lanyu's high degree of ethno-botanical intelligence and exquisite craftsmanship.

In order to adapt to Lanyu's climate, a complete Tao(Yami) housing complex consists of the main house, workshop, balcony, offering them spaces for residence, ritual, work and socialization.

Since the preservation of culture is comprehensive, the island of Lanyu has countless cultural stories for you to come and appreciate.

Places of Interest on Lanyu

There are 2 main roads on Lanyu: the 37km road encircling the island, and the 5.7km traverse road. By following the 37km road, one can reach all 6 tribes and take in the breathtaking view of Lanyu. The diversity of Lanyu is worth exploring, however most of the precious ecology and cultural connotations, require assistance from local guides to gain a deeper appreciation and ensure safety. Therefore it is recommended that all ocean and forest activities should be conducted under the expert guidance of a local guide, including experiencing traditional buildings and nighttime ecological observation.
