Rinari Tribal Village
Rinari Tribal Village
Located in Majia Township, Rukai and Paiwan families have migrated here from Haocha in Wutai Township, Dashe in Sandimen Township and Majia to live here after Typhoon Morakot damaged their homes. Rinari is a Paiwan expression meaning "let's go and live together!" The village has houses that are European-style and have light steel frames. It is full of tribal character.
Wanjin Boulevard
On a 1km-long section of the route toward Wanjin Basilica and Wanjin Barracks trees have turned the boulevard into a green tunnel. This picturesque landscape attracts many cyclists. Around the 39km marker on the Mountainside Highway is a great place to take pictures.
Wulaluzi Tribal Village
After Typhoon Morakot, families from Taiwu moved to this village, built in 2011 and situated within Xinchi Farm, Wanluan Township. It covers about 10 hectares and the single slanting-roof and artificial-slate designs express aboriginal architectural characteristics. From the village to Wanjin and the Mountainside Recreation Area forms a community and a new tourist spot.
Mountainside Recreation Area
Along the Mountainside Highway, near Wanluan, there are places where visitors can barbecue, fish and camp. In mango season, visitors can collect them up and make preserved fruits by themselves.
Wanjin Basilica
Founded in the 11th year of the Xianfeng Emperor (1861), Wanjin Basilica is the only church in Taiwan declared to be a national monument. The church looks like a Gothic cathedral; all of th wood used in building it came from Xiamen. At the top of the front wall of the church is a "Feng Zhi" stone (Imperial Order), bestowed by the Tongzhi Emperor, evidence that the church witnessed exchanges between the East and the West. It is Taiwan's oldest Catholic church and the only church that has been designated as a historic site.
