During recent years, Kinmen has seen a dramatic increase in the number of it's avian species, thanks to the ecological conversation and promotion efforts of both the government and the private sectors. During the summertime, one can see sparrows and Blue-failed Bee Eaters, and in winter, Great Cormorants, white egrets, water also the hoopoe birds and ring-necked pheasants, that are often seen in the fields of Kinmen.
What makes Kinmen even more interesting is that fact that sea otter, a protected specie, as well as the fossilized thousand-year old horseshoe crab found along frequently the coastline.
