Fuyuan Forest Recreation Area

Fuyuan Forest Recreation Area is nicknamed butterfly valley because more than 30 species of butterfly can be seen here, fireflies as well. The cascading water of Fuyuan Waterfall upstream of the valley is an impressive sight, and the dense and lofty camphor trees are a distinctive feature of the area. In the forest the air is filled with phytoncide, making it a great place for an invigorating forest "shower."

Ruishui Hot Springs

The marker in Tropic of Cancer Marker Park looks, from a distance, like a crane with it's head high calling out, while the semi-circular body of the marker looks like the extended tail feathers. The marker is surrounded by trees and flowers and many visitors stop here for a short while to take photographs.

Ruishui Dairy Farm, Jijeng Dairy Farm

The dairy industry is highly-developed in Ruishui and Ruishui Dairy Farm and Jijeng Valley Farm are the two well-known local dairy farms. The green grass and clean water contribute to high-quality milk. One signature dish here is milk hot pot, very popular and worth trying.

Nonstop hot springs and rafting fun

Ruishui hot springs area covers 1000 hectares, making it the largest in Asia. It's water is rich is iron, barium and other minerals and has a therapeutic effect on skin diseases and arthritis. Medical research has shown that springs water increases the chances of women giving birth to a boy so the hot springs are known as"have-a-boy hot springs."

Xiuguluan River Rafting Service Center

In summer Ruishui is the place for river rafting! Starting at Ruishui Bridge the rafting route is 24 kilometers long and full of thrills and surprises. The rafting center provides related information and has a camping ground.

Wuhe village

Wuhe village is the home of Tianhe tea and is one of the famed tea production areas of Taiwan. Most of the tea produced on the Wuhe tableland is wulong tea, while the honey black tea is also very popular. The tea farmers are actively developing distinctive teas. Stay for a while at the tea-scent filled Wuhe tableland and enjoy some excellent tea.

Bao'an Temple

Bao'an Temple was built in 1888 and was Hualien's first city god temple. A big temple fair and parade are held to mark the god's birthday every year. The night before the parade, city god's night patrol, a rare custom, takes place. Teams of believers carry big drums and compete as they walk, creating a bustling scene. In recent years, with the support of local cultural workers, the Drum King Drumming Contest has become one of the most important drumming competitions in Taiwan, adding life to traditional folk activities.

Hegang Pomelo Tourist Orchard

Once famous worldwide for it's "Hegang black tea", as times changed tea sales declined in the 1950s. Looking for a new way to make a living, the local people began to grow pomelos and, after years of growing and improvement, the sweet and juicy "Hegang pomelo" was the result; Hegang pomelo is now a name renowned far and wide.

Qinglian Temple

Qinglian Temple was established around 120years ago. In it's history it has been destroyed and rebuilt it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. It's outer walls and floors are made using local Ruishui serpentine stone, gibing it local character. In the temple, Lord Sakyamuni Buddha, Mazu, Guan Sheng Di Jun and other gods are enshrined, as well as a bamboo basket which has an associated legend. Every year, the temple holds a large-scale Buddha bathing ritual and chanting and praying activities, as well as the folk "city god's night patrol" activity.

Kalala Coffee (Wuhe coffee)

Kalala settlement in Wuhe village was where the Japanese tried to grow coffee in the colonial era and, in recent years, coffee planting has been promoted in the settlement; the shade-grow method is used so the land is used sustainably. To overcome the lack of water, the beans are shelled and then sun dried, retaining the sweetness and also saving water resources.
