Farglory Ocean Park

Farglory Ocean Park is a place for amusement as well as education. It has eight themed areas and four themed performances, of which the dolphin show is very popular and the Broadway style performance at Crystal Palace is highly entertaining; the amusement facilities are fun and there are also a verity of experiential activities and a marine eco-classroom. Eat and show until you drop. The "sleepless ocean night" camp, the only one of it's kind in Taiwan, allows visitors to fall into sleep accompanied by marine creatures. The adjacent Farglory Hotel is one of the only 5-stars hotels in Hualien and has unbeatable sea views and is an excellent accommodation choice. The view of the Pacific Ocean at dawn and dusk will make you reluctant to leave.

Henan Temple

Henan Temple is in Yanliao village and is one of the most famous Buddhist monasteries of eastern Taiwan, with a history of over 40 years. The temple has the mountains at it's rear and the ocean in front. It uses multi-media to overcome the previous restrictions on the promotion of Buddhism. It's "Bounty Guanyin" symbol was created by renowned sculptor Yang Ying-feng and it is a temple with a pronounced artistic feel.

Shuilian Swale & Niu Shan Beach

Located beside the ocean, Shuilian was once covered by dense shrubbery and had abundant water. It was called "ciwidian" by the local Amirs tribe, meaning place with many leeches. The Han called it Shulian, a homophone for ciwidian. The scenery on the two sides of the coast is very different. On one side there is rugged steep gorges. Niushan is on the beach in the south of Shuilian and is once where buffalo roamed. In springs, the slopes are covered with lilies. The several kilometers of beach from Shuilian to Niushan have a pristine natural environment and fine, soft warm sand. Stroll barefoot along the beach and forget any worries.

Shimen Reaction Area Shitiping Shiti Harbor

From North to south, Shimen recreation area, Shitping, and Shiti Harbor form a reef rock sea shore several kilometers long. The rock is volcanic agglomerate. There is a lot of sea erosion and the potholes that have been formed in the intertidal area have become tidal pools in which various kinds of seaweed, fish and shrimp and shellfish live. This stretch of coast has traditionally been a place where Amis people gather food and is also a popular place for rock fishing. Shitiping camping ground is well-equipped and offers the chance to sleep under the stars, walk in the moonlight and view the Pacific by night. Shitiping is where whale-watching started in Hualien and boats also take visitors on night-fishing trips.

Yuedong Cavity

Yuedong Cavity is dark and mysterious. It has stalactites, stalagmites, fossils, and subsurface streamed bats live on the ceiling. Wild eels live in the pool. Entering the cave requires taking a small boat with searchlights operated by an experienced guide.

Changhong(Long Rainbow) Bridge

Changhong(Long Rainbow) Bridge spans the Xiuguluan River, connecting Jinpu and Gangkou villages and is the finishing point of the Xiuguluan River rafting route. There are an old and a new CHanghong Bridge. The reddish orange new bridge is for vehicles and has a cycle and pedestrian path and eight rafts viewing platforms. The old bridge could no longer take the traffic load and is now exclusively for pedestrians, offering visitors a bird's eye view of Gangkou and the volcanic agglomerate small island at the river mouth, called Xipulan Island or Lion and Globe Islet.

Tropic of Cancer Marker

The Tropic of Cancer Marker in Huallien are in Eengbin and Ruishui townships. The Tropic of Cancer is at 23.5 degrees north latitude and marks the most northerly position at which the sun appears directly overhead at it's zenith and is also the separating line between tropical and subtropical zones. Jingpu's Tropic of Cancer Marker is at the 69km point on Provincial Highway 11. Every year at the summer solstice, the sun rises up the white marker at dawn and down at dusk, and there is a slit for observation. Summer solstice at noon, sunray shines directly into the slit and visitors can experience being in the sun but casting no shadow.

"Man Will Triumph Over Nature" Memorial

There is a stone stele near Shimen cave. The rocks here are near the sea and the terrain is very rugged. When Provincial Highway 11 was built this section of road was hewn from the rock using hand tools by young Amis, their heroic efforts producing the flat road we see today. To commemorate their deed the stele was erected to remind people to not only respect and fear mountains and ocean, to also not underestimate the power thy have.
