Wonderland for pear feast - A happy trip at high altitude.

Tianchih Ecology Trail

Located in Heping District, Taichung City with approximately 31,300 hectares, Lishan Scenic Area sits in the middle of the Central Cross-Island Highway and is a hub connecting the east and west in central Taiwan. The area of Lishan Scenic Area is divided into 'Guguan'and 'Lishan' recreational systems. On the way from Guguan to Lishan, the altitude rises from 500 meters to above, 2,000 meters. Within the area are spectacular views of the miracles of nature: highlands, steep cliffs, peaks, and sea of clouds.

The arrival of spring brings the best season for visitors to enjoy the striking view of beautiful flowers. Pink cherry blossoms in Wuling Farm is one of the popular cherry blossom viewing spots in Taiwan. Moreover, Lishan is also known for producing a variety of high mountain temperate fruits and vegetables. Therefore, visitors are able to have this privilege to watch beautiful peach blossoms, plum blossoms, apple flowers dancing in the wind during your trip in spring. Four Seasons Flower Garden, situated across from Lishan Visitor Center, is another great choice for visitors to enjoy the attractive blossoms. It even provides visitors the view of flaming red maple leaves in spring. In addition to it's abundant natural resources, Lishan is also an important settled place for Atayal Tribe. Visitors are welcome to take a tour in Lishan Cultural and historic relics of Atayal Tribe as well as the development history of Central Cross-Island Highway.

Inside this area, there are Shaolai Trail, Lishan Guest house Ecology Trail, Cherry Blossom Trail, and Tianchih Ecology Trail. The forests including Formosan Blue Magpie, White-eared Sibia, and Vivid Niltava from time to time. Visitors must not miss sweet and juicy peaches and pears in July and August. Moreover, cabbages grown at the high attitude from June to December provide the best texture.

When it comes to autumn, the flaming maple leaves create fascinating scenery around Fushoushan Farm, Lishan Cultural Artifacts Exhibition Hall,and Lanshenglou. Lishan's high altitude location without light pollution makes it the ideal location for star-viewing activity. Honey apples are harvested in October and November, and persimmons and pears in November and December. Tianchih, located on top of Mt. Fushoushan, is always surrounded by clouds and mist. It is said that visitors can have their dreams come true if they make a wish after they go round Tianchih three times.

To visit a hot spring during the chill weather is a lovely thing to do in winter. Visitors can go to Guhuan Hot Spring or Guguan Hot Spring Park next to Guguan Visitor Center(Hot Springs Culture Center) and have the hot spring fish biting off the old skin. Moreover, the yummy trout meal is also a must-not-miss delicacy for visitors.
