Hebaoyu Eco Park

The fine-quality sugarcanes from Hebaoyu, a gigantic pond a century ago, were touted alongside Alishan's cypress and Budai's salt as the three specialties of Chiayi County. Hebaoyu draws attention with it's artificial wetland that not only purifies water but also serves as a terrific ecology classroom, teeming with aquatic plants and fish.

Zhecheng Culture Park of Suantou Sugar Refinery

When Typhoon Nari hit Taiwan in 2001, a flood triggered by torrential rains dealt a heavy blow to the equipment at Suantou Sugar Refinery, built in 1906. After the destroyed machinery was restored, the refinery was transformed into a leisure attraction where visitors can enjoy displays of products (sugarcane planks and molasses) and the cane sugar-making process by taking a ride on Wu-fen train, or a uniquely half-sized train that runs on narrow former railway tracks. The makeover effort has turned Taiwan's sugarcane heritage into a diverse educational trip.

Ruzi Riverside Bike Path

The most scenic bike path in Chiayi County runs through the administrative districts of Liujiao, Puzi and Dongshih, while offering cyclists a 25-km, highly popular route that takes in a varied plain landscape that includes: farmland, former railroads, creeks, rivershore, wetlands and seaboard. Starting from the back gate of Jhecheng Culture Park of Suantou Sugar Refinery, the bike path stretches through the sparkling light-sculptured Changshou Suspension Bridge in Liujiadian, the longest of it's kind in Taiwan, to connect downtown Suantou with apuppet theater, an old warehouse and gigantic windmills in Zhengy Village. As crowds of sightseers stop by Chuanzitou Leisure Village and a dazzing wetland ecosystem adjoining the Dongshi Bridge on Puzi River, skillfully prepared seafood dishesare waiting for them across Dongshi to end the perfect journey.

Qianyao Pottery Studio

In the Japanese colonial period, brick manufacturing (brick kilns) was the livelihood for Tanqian Village in Liujiao Township, due to the clay obtained from the region being highly pliable. In 1991, Hou Chun-ting founded the Qianyao Koji Pottery Studio in his native Tangqian Village, breathing ife into each unique kilned pottery piece while drawing global attention to Koju Pottery.
