Heart Transformation Traveling across Time in Zuoying

At the speed of 300 kilometers an hour, Taiwan High Speed Rail(THSR) passes Banpingshan and stops at the Zuoying THSR Station. Go throuhg the sun bathed lobby, Zuoying is there, like a scroll of time slowly unfolding before you; the rich color palette formed by the images and reflections of the Dragon Tiger Tower, the Spring and Autumn Pagodas and the Lotus Pond harmoniously blend with the single-hue green mountain in the backdrop.

The somewhat old, somewhat new pavilions, towers and gigantic statues are in stark contrast to the solemn Wan Ren Gong Wall (the high surrounding wall) of the Confucius Temple. In this 300 year old historic city of Zuoying, old brick and tile houses and quiet simple living remain inside the knotty streets and alleys. In and out of the city wall, people from all walks of life came up with various tasty delicacies and traditional markets, reflecting Zuoying's diverse culture and lifestyles.

Surrounded by Chaishan, Sheshan, Gueishan and Banpingshan, Zuoying was formerly named "Singlongjhuang". With its geographic location next to the Taiwan Strait, it has always been an important defense base. Not only did the Ming loyalist Zheng Cheng-Gong's troops take up farming and build settlements here. After the Republic of China relocated its base to Taiwan in 1949, many families of military personnel migrated to Zuoying and the government continued to restore and build military infrastructure here, including the navy port of Zuoying. With the largest navy dependents' village in the nation, Zuoying still maintains its longstanding military color.

However, today's Zuoying is also known for other feature attractions, including the internationally known Main Stadium (now National Stadium) constructed for the 2009 World Games, the green legend of Jhouzai Wetlands Park, the rainbow like cycling scenic bridge stretching over the sky above Cueihua Road and the lotus pond area with Taiwan's only half-boat, half-bus amphibious vehicles duck tour.

With its glorious history and diverse urban characters, Zuoying's charm is unparalleled.
