Hot Spring Town Covered in Cherry Blossoms

Wulai is the only aboriginal town in New Taipei City. Legend has it that this place was Atayal tribe's traditional hunting ground. In the Atayal language, Wulai means boiling water, which refers to hot springs, and this is why this location is named Wulai to this day. Every January and February are the cherry blossom season, and many tourists are attracted by hot springs and cherry blossom, viewing which rid people of their earthly worries and lift them higher to the Creator through visual and tactile senses.

Bird-watching Experience

Wulai has rich bird and insect ecologies such as the famous Mullet's barbets, thrushes, bamboopartridges, gray tree pies, Formosan Blue Magpies, swifts, Bronzed Drongos, and pelicans that sing a beautiful, celestial symphony. With the mist in the forests in wintertime and butterflies and cicada croaking in spring and summer, a picture of utopia on earth is composed. From Tonghou River up to Xiaoyi Section, Nanshi River valley, Neidong Forest Amusement Park, Jiajiuliao Trail, Fushan village, and Yunxian Hotel are all good bird-watching locations.

Jiajiuliao Trail

With relatively flat terrains, you can hear the sound of insects and birds in this tree-covered area. Due to few tourists, this place is very quiet and peaceful, much like a hidden utopia with exciting ecologies. The starting point of the trail is the Red River Valley, and ends at the toll booth of the Wulai Tourist Bridge (total 2km long).
