Zhikaxuan Forest Park

The Zhikaxuan Forest Park occupies a vast plot of land and was once an air base in a desolate area during Japanese occupation. After renovation it has become a marvelous park. In the park are extensive fields, botanical gardens, a garden maze, a greenhouse, as well as large statues and playground a fairytale-like feeling and is the perfect place for parents to come with children.

Chuying Waterside Eco-Park

Chuyin Waterside Eco-Park is located by the bicycle trail along Chuyin Mountain. Here water flows beneath small bridges, wild birds fly freely, and pine trees look like they are illustrated in pictures. As shows us different sights. This place is a wonderful garden where water and greenery combined to create a refreshing world of nature.

Fenglin(Maple Trees) Trail

Along Maple Trees Trail, trees sway with the wind and flowers blossom place is ideal for exploration on a holiday; head further north to reach Baiyun Trail. The night view of Hualien City can be seen from here; you will be amazed to see the reflection of the bright moon on the ocean.

Keishuin (Japanese Monastery)

Keishuin is rated as a level three heritage by the Ministry of the Interior. In 1972, an elderly Japanese man called Kawabata Mitsuji founded Yoshino institution(Keishuin today) for Takano Shingon School. The place was the religious center of Japanese immigrants at that time, and is now the most intact Shingon School monastery in Taiwan.

Sheng'an Temple, Cihui Temple

Sheng'an Temple and Cihui Temple stand next to each other and both are over 60 years old. They are famous Taoist temples in Hualien and have no shortage of believers. The architecture is impressive and design exquisite and elegant. Both temples pay worship to the Golden Mother of the Jasper Pool(a.k.a Auntie Queen Mother or the Golden Mother). Whenever there is a festival, believers flock over from every part of Taiwan and make the ceremony lively. At Lantern Festival every year, Sang' an Temple holds a lantern contest, a riddle contest, and lantern display, regarded as one of the most influential folk activities.

Night market life

Night markets are a vital part of Taiwanese life. The Ziqiang night market of Jian is situated at the intersection between Ziqian street and Heping street. Thanks to the accessibility of the Internet, the barbequed meat, juices and other foods are famous both near and far. The night markets are now a place where people must visit when they come to Hualien, and even people walking past want to join in the fun when they see people lining up.
